HOW THE BOARD STORE STARTED...
Back in 2006, Herzog's (a clothing store we owned in downtown St. Catharines) had some vacant space, and we were looking for a way to utilize it. After a year of trying to lease the space with no success, I evaluated what was lacking in the area and realized there was no dedicated snowboard store in St. Catharines. Planning to open in 2007, I thought this was a no-brainer and made an appointment with Burton Snowboards, intending to establish a Burton snowboard store. However, after placing an order for clothing, the Burton rep informed me that we couldn't order snowboards until we had been in business for three years. After managing my anxiety over this news, I consulted my son Daniel, who was snowboarding at the time. Coincidentally, he was in the half-pipe when I called, and he quickly suggested five brands. Daniel’s recommendations were spot on, and at just 14 years old, I appointed him as the brand manager of The Board Store.
